ACLJ and Congressman Rehberg to Defend Jesus Statue

War Memorial Statue of Jesus Overlooking Big Mountain in Montana

Many of you are aware of the Freedom From Religion Foundation’s (FFRF) ridiculous effort to have a 60-year old war memorial in Montana taken down because it depicts Jesus. In fact, over 70,000 of you signed our letter urging the National Forest Service (NFS) to ignore the FFRF and renew the lease for this memorial on Big Mountain. Fortunately, the NFS listened and the lease was appropriately renewed. Predictably, as has become its rather frivolous habit, the FFRF has filed a lawsuit again   Continue Reading...

Atheist Group Launches Legal Attack Against Jesus Statue in Montana

War Memorial Statue of Jesus Overlooking Big Mountain in Montana

We knew it would happen. The Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF), an atheist group that continually challenges everything from the National Motto, the National Day of Prayer, and the Pledge of Allegiance, has filed a federal lawsuit challenging the Jesus statue - a Montana war memorial that's been displayed on a mountaintop since the 1950's. The FFRF lawsuit comes just days after the National Forest Service rejected arguments from the atheist group to remove the statue. The federal governmen   Continue Reading...

Victory: Jesus Statue Remains Because ACLJ Members Spoke Out

War Memorial Statue of Jesus on Big Mountain in Montana

In a significant victory for religious liberty, the Flathead National Forest announced today that it would in fact renew the Knights of Columbus special use permit for the display of a statue of Jesus Christ. The statue, which was placed there as a World War II memorial by returning veterans, is located on a 25 foot by 25 foot parcel of land near the top of Chair Two at Whitefish Mountain Resort. The National Forest Service received more than 95,000 comments on the matter; 70,000 of those commen   Continue Reading...

    A Christmas Victory

A woman painting a Christmas ornament is reflected on a bauble at a workshop in the village of Chignahuapan in Puebla

If you’ve been reading our blog series on 2011 victories, you already know that this has been quite a year for the ACLJ. We’ve taken bold stands on the national and international stage – including representing more than 100 members of Congress in the ObamaCare litigation, weighing in at the U.N. in support of Israel’s right of self-defense and against the Palestinian effort to short-circuit the peace process, and we’ve worked hard to save a courageous Iranian pastor   Continue Reading...

Glory to the Newborn King, Merry Christmas!

A total lunar eclipse is seen with a Christmas tree in foreground in Seoul

"Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men." The Birth of Jesus, as recorded in Luke 2: 1-20 (King James Version): And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed. ([And] this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.) And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, wh   Continue Reading...

    Comparing Jesus Statues

    aclj

The statue of Jesus that sits atop Big Mountain – a war memorial placed by World War II veterans upon their return – is more than just a memorial; it has actual historical significance. These heroes saw similar shrines across Europe as they fought for our liberty. As you can see from the picture above, the war memorial is similar to statues placed throughout Europe that these war heroes would have seen as they served their country. Below is yet another example – found in Wars   Continue Reading...
