Taking Pastor Saeed’s Case to Congress
Earlier today, I, along with ACLJ Chief Counsel Jay Sekulow and Pastor Saeed’s wife Naghmeh, presented testimony before a standing-room only crowd at the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission of the U.S. Congress about American Pastor Saeed Abedini and the worsening plight of Christians in Iran. Today’s testimony before this bipartisan commission of Congress presented the best opportunity yet to elevate Pastor Saeed’s case within our own government. I told the Commission that we... Why has Obama's State Department Left an American Pastor Behind in Iran?
On Monday, March 11, at a crucial moment, the State Department turned its back on an American pastor imprisoned in Iran. In September of last year, Saeed Abedini – a U.S. citizen from Idaho – was arrested by Iran’s jihadist Revolutionary Guard when he was in Tehran helping build an orphanage. He was tortured, tried, convicted, and sentenced to eight years in Iran’s most brutal prison simply because of his Christian faith. In other words, he’s an American hostage. ... Continue Reading

I, along with ACLJ Chief Counsel Jay Sekulow and Pastor Saeed’s wife Naghmeh, have been called to testify before Congress on Pastor Saeed’s behalf this Friday. The bipartisan congressional commis... Aid to Muslim Brotherhood Egypt: We’re Slowing it Down
For months we’ve been demanding that the Obama Administration suspend American aid to Muslim Brotherhood-led Egypt. In fact, after an overwhelming public outcry, Congress placed a hold on aid to Egypt that had to this point deprived the Muslim Brotherhood of hundreds of millions of dollars. Last week it seemed that Congressional resistance had crumbled and the Administration was once again free to pour money into the Muslim Brotherhood. Secretary of State Kerry, just days after the Seq... Continue Reading

Opposing Hagel: It’s Crunch Time
The fight against Chuck Hagel’s nomination is entering a critical phase. Yesterday, writing on Fox News’ website, Jay highlighted how Senator Hagel was calling for increased cooperation with Iran just weeks after an Iranian-coordinated attack on American troops in Iraq. In other words, Senator Hagel was calling for engagement with Iran even as Iran was committing acts of war against the U.S. With a vote scheduled as early as next week, fifteen Republican senators wrote President O... Congress Makes Strong Bipartisan Call for Pastor Saeed’s Release
As Pastor Saeed’s story continues to sweep the globe, and as we at the ACLJ prepare to take his case to the Human Rights Council in Geneva, the U.S. Congress has again spoken out forcefully in support of Saeed’s immediate release. This morning, 84 Members of the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives announced a bipartisan letter to Secretary of State John Kerry urging him to “exhaust every possible option to secure Mr. Abedini’s immediate release.” The... ACLJ Backs Lawsuit Against AG Holder Over Fast & Furious
After failed attempts to get key documents in its investigation of the botched gun-running program known as Operation Fast & Furious, Congress filed a federal lawsuit in August urging a judge to force Attorney General Holder and the Justice Department to turn over critical documents in the case. There's still many unanswered questions about the failed gun-running operation that put guns into the hands of Mexican drug cartels - a program that resulted in the murder of U.S. Border Patrol Agent... Did Holder Withhold Petraeus Probe from President & Congress?
There are reports that the FBI notified Attorney General Eric Holder months ago that former CIA Director David Petraeus' name had surfaced in an investigation that ultimately uncovered what Petraeus has now admitted - his involvement in an extramarital affair. Holder never told the President. The White House says it first became aware of the Petraeus investigation and affair last Wednesday - the day after the election. The President accepted Petraeus' resignation two days later. Here's the ques... Continue Reading
